ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Accused of stalking his political rival, Gary Smith faced a judge for the third time in three weeks Sunday.

And even as the charges continue to mount against Smith, he believes he should be let out of jail.

Smith is now facing charges of stalking his former campaign manager and he’s going to need even more cash to get out of jail.

A background investigator told the judge Sunday that Smith is a threat to the community.

Smith is accused of going after fellow Republican rival Janice Arnold Jones and Smith’s former campaign manager.  He allegedly slashed the tires on their cars several times.

After Smith bonded out of jail at the end of December surveillance video showed Smith of front of Arnold-Jones’ home the next day, a clear violation of his conditions of release.

On Sunday Smith faced the judge on another charge of aggravated talking for terrorizing his former campaign manager.  Rhead Story told KRQE News 13 that Smith has slashed more than 50 of his tires over the last few months.

In court Sunday, Smith said he was not a danger and asked that he be released.

The judge said if he wanted to get out of jail he would need to come up with $225,000 for all three cases.

Smith also faces charges in El Paso where a former neighbor claims Smith slashed their tires and even tried to burn their house down.
