EUNICE, N.M. (AP) - Eunice's embattled fire chief has been fired after being arrested on charges stemming from the theft of a radar detector from a wrecked vehicle at an accident scene.

Eunice City Manager Curtis Schrader says Fire Chief Ron Grogan was terminated Tuesday.

Schrader says city employee and volunteer firefighter John Dudley and firefighter Daniel Cueto were suspended for 30 days without pay. They then will be on a three-month probation period with the city.

The three men were among five firefighters at the volunteer fire department facing felony charges relating to the Dec. 4 theft. State police arrested them Dec. 16.

Grogan's attorney, Max Proctor, declined to comment.

Grogan was charged with burglary, tampering with evidence and conspiracy to tamper with evidence.
