ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - An afternoon crash apparently involving two drivers who were drag racing has left a third driver in critical condition, Albuquerque police are reporting.
The crash at about 4:30 p.m. happened on the city's West Side at Central Avenue and 90th Street.
Initial indications are the two racers were heading west on Central and hit a vehicle driven by a woman entering the intersection from 90th Street.
At last report the woman was in critical conditions.
Additional details including the names of the drivers have not yet been released.
The crash shut down Central between Bridge and Unser and brought out the Albuquerque Police Department team that investigates fatal accidents due to the severity of the woman's injuries.
(Update July 3: APD reports the woman hurt in the crash, Tara Garcia, 27, has died from her injuries. The investigation of the crash is continuing, and neither of the other drivers has been cited or charged.)
