ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - An Albuquerque man suspected of raping and murdering a teen girl in California decades ago has been arrested based on a DNA match.
Daniel McDermott, 44, was arrested at his home and is charged in the1988 death of Gehmine Chandler in Buena Park, Calif.
Chandler, 18 at the time, was visiting her father when she was found strangled to death in a bedroom.
The Associated Press reported McDermott was one of several acquaintances of the victim who gave DNA samples to detectives who reopened the case. The DNA was then compared to samples taken during Chandler's autopsy.
McDermott is being held without bond in the Metropolitan Detention Center awaiting extradition to California.
