ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Police investigating a suspicious death Tuesday shut down a section of Broadway Boulevard SE, as they tried to find clues in what’s officially being called a suspicious death.
Few details have been released, but an Albuquerque Police Department spokesperson said the APD Violent Crimes Unit had been called to the scene.
Broadway was closed between Hazeldine and Santa Fe avenues shortly after 11 a.m. The road reopened a few hours later.
Police say they got a call at around 10:30 a.m. when a neighbor checked on the victim, looked through a window and saw the man was not moving. The neighbor also saw blood, according to APD.
The victim has been described only as an elderly man whose identity has yet to be confirmed.
(Update July 20: APD has identified the victim as Matthew Defraia, 49. The Office of the Medical Investigator has yet to determine the cause of death.)
The crime scene is in an apartment complex at 729 Broadway SE.
When officers arrived they found the man dead, but the cause of death won’t be known until after an autopsy is done. Investigators say they initially didn’t find a weapon or any signs of a break-in.
Officers could be seen interviewing many people around the area but do not have any suspects.
This suspicious death is about one block from where a man was gunned down on the sidewalk on Sunday.
No arrests have been made in that case.
