David Parker Ray case goes to Australia

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Albuquerque FBI believe they have matched a letter sent from Australia to one of David Parker Ray's victims.

The FBI is working with only first names on a letter.

"We're hoping Mark can tell us more about Connie. Her last name for beginners. Also her friends, her family, where she hung out," said FBI spokesperson Frank Fisher.

Fisher, who works in Albuquerque, was on Australian television asking for the public's cooperation in finding the man who wrote the letter.

It is dated June 19, 1990. The return address is from a suburb of Sydney, Australia.

The letter was found in the possession of suspected serial killer, David Parker Ray. The FBI believes "Connie" in the letter was an 18-year-old victim of Ray.

A woman named Connie was found in Ray's journal entry. She was described as white, with blonde hair, 5 feet tall, and a birthmark on her chest. It also says that she was abducted in December of 1995.

The FBI believes Connie was born in 1977. They are not sure if she is from New Mexico.

In the letter, Mark wrote about a beach that he and Connie visited. Investigators are not sure that meant Elephant Butte, near Ray's home.

Mark also wrote to Connie that he'd recently lived in Canada, England and France. The FBI is contacting authorities in those countries in hopes they can help them find Mark.

"It's a longshot, but we continue to hear from the relatives and loved ones of possible victims of David Parker Ray. And we think we owe it to them to exhaust every possible longshot and turn over every rock that we can to try to bring closure to this case," said Fisher.

Ray was sentenced to life in prison in 2001 for kidnapping and sexually torturing two women in a trailer that he called his "Toy Box". Ray died the next year from a heart attack.

While in prison, Ray claimed he killed dozens of women but never revealed where he hid the bodies.
