Daughter remembers mom killed in crash

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - It was a weekend full of sadness and fond memories for the daughters of one of the women killed by a runaway bank robbery suspect on Tuesday in Northwest Albuquerque.

Kandice Adame, 10, had to fight back tears as she talked about all the fun times she shared with her mother, Janice Flores.

"We would always sing songs in the car," Adame said.

Adame said her mom wasn't the best singer but she tried and those values are what Flores was teaching her two daughters, Kandice, 10, and Kristin, 4, before her life was cut short at the age of 28.

"She would just say try your best, try your best and never give up," Adame said.

The father of Flores, Abram Flores, said his daughter was born to be a leader. She never let anything stop even when she became a mother at the age of 18 and tried to tackle college.

Flores got her bachelors when Kandace was just starting school and her youngest daughter, Kristin, was just a toddler.

Flores was working on her masters but never got the chance to finish.

On Tuesday afternoon, Flores and her friend sat a red light on Quail and Coors on their lunch break when a suspected bank robber plowed into their car.

Flores' friend, Kimberly Aragon-Nunez, died at the scene. Paramedics managed to revive Flores but when they reached the hospital she died too.

"When we got home that's when they notified us that my daughter had been killed," Flores said.

Flores said his heart broke that day when he had to tell her daughters their mom wasn't coming home.

"I told her I loved her that night," Adame said.

The little girl who only got 10 precious years with her mom is now looking toward the future.

"She would want me to be just like her, because I want to be just like her," Adame said.

For now, her job is to make sure her little sister remembers their mother, who lived each day to see them smile.

"I hope she will, if she doesn't I will help her remember," Adame said.

Janice's father said in the past few days he realized how many people his daughter touched. He hopes they will always remember his daughter and never forget about her children.

The family wants to thank everyone who's supported them through this terrible week.

A car wash will be held at "Julians Burgers and More" at Central and Atrisco to raise money for the girls' college fund on Sunday morning.

A visitation and rosary for Janice Flores is scheduled for Sunday evening at San Felipe de Neri church in Albuquerque's old town. The funeral mass will be held at the same church on Monday morning.
