ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - An Albuquerque man charged with killing his 4-year-old daughter pleaded not guilty in court Tuesday.
Anthony Chavez and the child's stepmother, Gayla Hernandez, are both accused of killing the little girl last month inside their southeast Albuquerque home.
Hernandez claims she found the girl unresponsive and presumed she had fallen off a stool.
Chavez later gave police a list of excuses saying the rats in the house had scratched her, she had fallen off her scooter, and she had been attacked by a pit bull.
Investigators say neither Hernandez nor Chavez showed any emotion when they were told the girl was dead.
