TUCUMCARI, N.M. (KRQE) - A man suspected of shooting an Arkansas police officer Sunday night was arrested in Tucumcari, N.M.

Tristan Honey is suspected of shooting Fort Smith Police Officer Barney Parsons after Parsons pulled him over for running a stop sign. Honey then allegedly jumped out of the vehicle and opened fire.

Officer Parsons was shot twice in the leg, once in the foot, and once in the chest but he was wearing a bulletproof vest. He remains hospitalized in stable condition.

Honey was arrested in Tucumcari after State Police say he walked into a port of entry station in San Jon and turned himself in. Honey told the police that he was involved in an incident and he believed he shot a police officer, "As far as we know at this point, he just walked in and just on his own free will volunteered this information." said Officer Jarrad Copeland of the Fort Smith, Arizona Police Department.

Police say honey will be charged with attempted capital murder and believe there were also people in the vehicle with Honey when the shooting happened; they are still on the loose.
