ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Police said they think one of the fugitives connected to a local Denny's robbery and shooting has fled the country, and they've arrested the man they think helped him do it.

Tuesday, police got a tip that suspect Francisco Melgar was hiding out in an Albuquerque home.

When police arrived at the home, Melgar was nowhere to be found, but police questioned the two men at the residence.

They have since arrested one of the men, Mario Burgos-Rosales. He is charged with harboring and aiding a felon.

The other man at the home admitted that both he and Burgos-Rosales helped Melgar escape to Phoenix earlier this week.

Both men then arranged to pay a man in Phoenix to take Melgar across the border into Mexico.

Police said they aren't sure if Melgar is actually out of the country, but they have notified Mexican authorities.

"We're working with federal agents right now to locate him. This doesn't mean we've turned the case over to the federal agents and said please take over. It just means please help us in apprehending him," Albuquerque Police Officer Nadine Hamby said.

Police have not charged the man that said he helped transport Melgar.
