SANTA FE (KRQE) - A drunken driver, who ran over himself after a wild highway chase near Santa Fe, was sentenced to 364 days in jail on Monday.
Sandoval County District Court Judge George Eichwald called Roy Aguilar's DWI particularly egregious during sentencing.
The judge handed down the jail sentence Monday for Aguilar's first DWI offense and related charges.
In 2008, Aguilar nearly slammed into two vehicles while he was driving the wrong way on the road out to Cochiti Lake from Interstate 25.
He then drove off of the road, fell out of his vehicle and his pickup truck rolled over him.
Aguilar, 20, pleaded guilty to aggravated DWI, fleeing an officer and driving on a suspended license.
"I think it will make him think a little bit more and a little bit longer about the consequences of his actions and how lucky we are today," New Mexico State Police Sgt. Lisa Grace Romero said.
In court, Aguilar apologized to anyone he put in danger. His attorney said he completed an 18 week alcohol rehabilitation program.
With good time, Aguilar could be out of jail in 157 days.
