ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - On Friday, Witnesses reported a woman drunk driving with two kids in her car. They also said she parked her car, and used the parking lot like a toilet.
Lucynthia Hubbard, 41, already has two DWI convictions.
Hubbard made her first appearance before a judge Saturday morning. Friday, she made a different type of appearance in the parking lot of a Hobby Lobby.
Manager Rick Main said there was nothing unusual about his Friday until Hubbard came stumbling in.
"Looked like she had been drunk and that she had just chugged a beer in her car, they had seen that in the parking lot, and walked into the store," he said.
Main was working at his desk when two employees alerted him of Hubbard's arrival.
Store employees and another witness reported seeing her drinking and urinating in the parking lot, according to the criminal complaint.
While all of this was going on, her two children, ages three and five, were in her car.
Hubbard is charged with two counts of child abuse. She's in jail because Main and two other Hobby Lobby employees jumped to action.
"She pulled her car keys out, jumped in the car, and put her kids in there kind of hurriedly and started the car," Main said. "I made a judgment and I just reached in turned the car off and pulled her keys. She came after me, and I threw the keys to one of my employees and he was behind the truck. And she went after him, and he said 'ma'am I will not give you your keys back'."
Main said he keeps thinking about what could have happened to the two innocent children in Hubbard's backseat.
"I have a young child myself and a family and that would break my heart, break my heart," he said. "That woman could not drive, and I wouldn't let her drive out of that parking lot."
Main said he wouldn't have been able to live with himself if he had let her go, and something terrible had happened.
Hubbard has two prior DWI convictions from 1990 and 2000.
