One dead after Alamogordo SWAT standoff

State police discovered a dead man Saturday while investigating a property northeast of Alamogordo where SWAT officers were involved in a standoff that began the day before.

Officers also discovered two propane tanks linked together inside the residence and notified the Doña Ana County Sheriff's bomb team, which determined the tanks didn't pose a threat.

A woman who was taken into custody was taken for undisclosed medical treatment.

State police investigators said the incident began Thursday about 11:15 a.m. when occupants of the home used rifles to shoot at an Otero County Sheriff's deputy who was trying to serve an eviction notice.
