CORTEZ, Colo. (KRQE-KREZ) - A Cortez, Colo., man is in federal custody, accused of sending an email threat against President Obama to the FBI.
According to a grand jury indictment from the United States District Court for the District of Colorado, resident Timothy Ryan Gutierrez wrote an e-mail from Cortez to the FBI in Washington, D.C.
In the Jan. 12 e-mail, Gutierrez allegedly wrote, "I'm going to assasinate the new president of the United States of America. PS you have 48 hours to stop it from happening."
In another e-mail to the FBI the same day, Gutierrez allegedly wrote that he forgot to mention to the FBI that he rigged 40 pounds of C4 and TNT in seven cars outside the Mall of America in Minnesota.
Agents took Gutierrez into custody on Thursday. He's being held at a facility in Durango, Colo.
He is facing two counts, one for each e-mail, and could have to pay a $250,000 fine and face up to 15 years in a federal prison.
