BELEN, N.M. (KRQE) - The state Office of the Medical Investigator said Monday that remains found north of Belen on Sunday belonged to a bear, not a human.
According to OMI officials, there are only four minor differences in remains of a bear and the remains of a human.
A group of people riding horses north of Belen found part of a leg and foot just after 5 p.m. Sunday, according to the Valencia County Sheriff's Department.
The group called deputies shortly after they found the parts on a ditchbank near North Mesa Road and Vista Alegra, near both Interstate 25 and a rail line.
