ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Albuquerque police have arrested two men in an especially gruesome murder case that came to surface Saturday night.

Albuquerque Police Department spokesperson Nadine Hamby said officers starting investigating a missing persons case at a home on Sweetwater Drive and Flor De Mayo after a 20-year-old woman's mother reported her missing.

The missing person was Brittni Carlini, 20. Police said she was killed after meeting two men before a snowboarding trip.

Investigators said Carlini went to the house to pick up her snowboard.

"What a heinous crime for just a young innocent girl trying to go get her property," Hamby said.

Police arrested Christopher Midyette, 19, and Ryan Vigil, 19, on Sunday morning. Both are charged with an open count of murder and tampering with evidence.

"Ryan Vigil was apparently a friend of hers, he had worked with her," Hamby said.

Vigil told investigators Midyette beat Carlini with a baseball bat as she tried to leave. Investigators were seen removing a baseball bat from the house Saturday night.

"They took Brittni and put her in the back of a vehicle. They took her to an undisclosed location at Rio Rancho, dug a hole for her, placed her body in the hole and burned her body," Hamby said.

Police said they are not sure if Carlini was romantically involved with Vigil. They also don't know the motive in her murder.

"Ryan had disclosed that he had an issue with her and that Chris was protecting him and he had his back and that is why he struck Brittni," Hamby said.

Both suspects are still in police custody on $300,000 bonds.

Albuquerque police said they were able to find the Carlini's remains after Vigil told them where she was buried.
