ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - A man broke into several University of New Mexico student dorm rooms last week, groping two women while they slept, according to campus police.

Lt. Robert Haarhues of UNM Police said the man walked into unlocked rooms at Coronado Hall in the middle of the night.

Freshman Jordan Gillespie was asleep in her room when she woke up at 4 a.m. to a stranger in a plaid shirt touching her knee.

"I sat up, yelled at him and he left. He just ran," Gillespie said.

A different female resident reported waking up to a white male in his underwear who was touching her breast.

Another student told police she came home to see her door open and her television moved, but no one was in the room.

Gillespie said students have dubbed the intruder the Coronado Creeper.

"We just all find it creepy that he was in our rooms at four in the morning,” she said. "Like touching us and not doing anything else, like stealing."

The two victims who were touched never got a good look at the intruder's face.

"We always find people in the dorm room that don't belong there, but this is the first time we've actually had someone touch people and leave,” Lt. Robert Haarhues said.

Coronado Hall staff members have posted flyers warning students.

"Basically they say to be wary to lock you doors, no matter what you are doing," student Mike Kots said.

UNM Police interviewed a student after the incident.

Lt. Haarhues said the student was wearing a plaid shirt similar to the one reported by a victim.

Police did show the women a photo of the student in question, but none of them were able to identify him.

Haarhues said if they make an arrest, the dorm room intruder could be charged with burglary and criminal sexual contact.
