ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - A man suspected in a drive-by shooting who deputies say was ready for a shootout with them fell from a tree early Monday morning, suffering head injuries.

Deputies said Timothy Johnson, 25, climbed a tree in the parking lot of the Olive Garden restaurant on San Mateo Boulevard near Academy Road after leading them on a motorcycle and foot chase from Albuquerque's South Valley.

When deputies surrounded the tree, Johnson reached for a branch and fell to the ground, according to deputies.

He was taken to the University of New Mexico Hospital with injuries to his head. Sgt. Javier Madrid with the Bernalillo County Sheriff's Department said he was also believed to be wearing some kind of body armor.

Around 10:30 Sunday night, deputies were called to a home on Entrada Bonita when a man inside heard gunfire. Nobody was hit.

Deputies soon spoke with Johnson's family when he returned, starting the chase.

Madrid also said deputies believe Johnson may be connected to several recent burglaries.
