Local murder gains nation spotlight

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - A local murder case will get some national attention Saturday on a new episode of 48 Hours Mystery.

Three years ago, a husband and a wife were murdered in their northwest Albuquerque home allegedly by the couple's mortgage broker.

The suspect, Ronald Santiago, is still awaiting trial. In a bizarre chain of events, Santiago was charged in the case.

John Ohlemacher and Bernadette Ohlemacher were shot to death in the bedroom of their Paradise hills home.

The Ohlemacher's daughter Renee was home at the time of the murders. She said that she hid in the closet and called police when she heard the shots that killed her parents.

She was a person of interest in the case, but was later cleared.

Saturday's episode raises question's of what exactly Renee Ohlemacher knew the day her parents were killed.

She was the beneficiary of a $1 million life insurance policy after her parents died. Relatives who will appear on the program believe that the money was enough to get her to take part in the murder.

The show will feature interviews with Renee, family relatives and the murder suspect.

A judge threw out critical evidence against Santiago earlier this year. He is currently free on bond.
