Deputy injured in suspected DWI crash

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - A Bernalillo County sheriff's deputy suffered minor injuries late Thursday night when another car crashed into his cruiser.

The deputy, whose name has not been released, was taken to the hospital as a precaution. Sheriff's department spokesperson Erin Kinnard Thompson said he was treated and released.

Other deputies said the deputy was responding to a call, driving on Arenal Road near Isleta Boulevard in southwest Albuquerque, when another vehicle pulled in front of his.

The driver in the other vehicle, identifid as Bernie B. Tapia, 41, allegedly tried to run, according to deputies, and there was a struggle before he was taken into custody on suspicion of drunken driving.
