ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Authorities released the 911 call from Luke Sanchez who shot and killed a suspected burglar Saturday night in Belen.
Sanchez is charged with count of murder, but he claims he acted in self defense.
After Sanchez said he witnessed a burglary, he hopped in his car and called 911.
Sanchez: They're driving all over the place trying
to get away.
Dispatcher: Ok, but how do you know they robbed
the place?
Sanchez: Because they're unloading packages and
they left the door open and when I started to follow them, they
took off.
Dispatcher: OK Sir, what is your name? Hello?
Sanchez: Get back, get back, stay there, stay
there.
Dispatcher: Oh my God! Christina. That propane
place on Galbadon Road behind Burger King. Yeah, it was calls for
burglary in progress and now this guy has them. I can hear him
yelling at them.
Sanchez: I shot just shot one.
Dispatcher: Oh s*** What was that?
Sanchez: I just killed one.
Dispatcher: He just shot somebody. Christina, he
said he just killed him, shot him in the head.
The dispatcher then asked Sanchez why he shot the man.
"Because he attacked me. He came to my window, he punched my window out," Sanchez said.
Chavez turned himself in Wednesday.
District Attorney Lemuel Martinez said even though Sanchez has been charged with murder, Martinez doesn't know if he will pursue this case any further.
Sanchez's attorney Ray Twohig said earlier this week that the dispatcher told his client to follow the suspect's vehicle.
Friday, Twohig said he believes there are more 911 tapes that were not released. Valencia County dispatch said the tapes are complete.
The full audio from the tape is available here .
