ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Nearly 300 offenders in custody thanks to "Operation Falcon," a month long initiative between federal, state and local law enforcement officers to catch wanted criminals across the country.

Operation Falcon lasted the entire month of June and netted 287 fugitives in New Mexico.

In the state, the arrests ranged from violent crimes to sexual predators.

Friday morning, U.S. Marshals praised the collaboration between law enforcement agencies to bring the state's fugitives to justice.

They said it can be difficult to find fugitives in such a large state, adding that residents lent a helping hand.

"A lot of what we saw happening when we were going door to door looking for people based on last known addresses, we had a lot of citizens cooperate with us, because I'll tell you in talking to the citizens of New Mexico, they're very frustrated with the fact that we have so many fugitives out on the street," U.S. Marshals Gorden Eden said.

14 sex offenders were netted during the operation.

Since Operation Falcon started in 2005, over 91,000 people have been arrested across the country.
