RIO RANCHO N.M. (KRQE) - The case is cold and police have no leads in the 2008 murder of Amber Turberville, and now detectives and Amber's mother are making a plea to put her killer behind bars.
"I'll have closure when I know what happened to my daughter," Turberville’s mother Kimberly Sheafe said.
Turberville lived on her own since she was 16. Her mother said she loved life and all it had to offer.
"She was super fun, very intelligent, smart and she loved her friends, Sheafe said.
The vibrant teen called her mother everyday, and then one day the calls stopped.
A few days later in April 2008, Amber's body was found in an arroyo in Rio Rancho.
Police aren't releasing how she died, but said it was violent.
"You never dream that your daughter is going to be murdered," Sheafe said.
At the time of her death, Turberville's MySpace page was filled with drug references and curse words.
Her mother says Amber was just being a teenager.
Police seem to agrees, saying the teen hadn't been in much trouble.
"I don't think she was a horrible person I think that Amber was a young vibrant 18 year old who had a few run-ins with the police but nothing of any major consequence or significance," Officer John Francis with Rio Rancho Police said.
Francis said Turberville was known across the state.
"Amber had contacts in the Belen area, Bosque Farms, Los Lunas, Albuquerque, and Rio Rancho. She frequented both areas and lived in both areas," Francis said.
Turberville's mother and grandmother said she was a good friend. Now they are asking for the same.
"I would just like to plea to anyone who has any information even if they think it isn't important about Amber. Amber deserves the justice," Her grandmother Gloria Jarnagin said.
Police said they have had several persons of interest in the case, but none have panned out.
If you have any information on Amber Turberville's murder, you're asked to call Crime Stoppers at 843-STOP.
