Man charged in mother's death

ROSWELL, N.M. (KBIM-KRQE) - A Roswell man has been charged with murder his mother Saturday night.

Roswell Police responded to a report of a stabbing at 1103 Melrose just after 7 p.m. Saturday.

When police arrived, they found Mary Piedra, 44, badly injured from numerous stab wounds. She was transported to Eastern New Mexico Medical Center whe she later died.

The victim's son, 21 year old Christopher Paiz, is charged with an open count of murder and tampering with evidence. He is in the Chaves County Detention Center awaiting his initial appearence before a judge.

Roswell police have not released a motive for the murder, but the family said Paiz suffers from a mental disorder.
