ROSWELL, N.M. (KRQE-KBIM) - A 65-year-old man is accused of stabbing his 71-year-old brother to death during a family fight Monday night.

Roswell police were called to the home the brothers shared on the 300 block of East Bonney Street around 9 p.m. Monday on reports of a stabbing.

When officers arrived, they found Raynaldo Marquez, 71, dead. They said another household member, who wasn't identified, was injured.

According to police, Harold Marquez then allegedly tried to attack the officers with a knife.

No officers were hurt during the brief struggle.

Police said they're not sure what led up to the fight.

The younger Marquez is in the Chaves County Detention Center. He's charged with an open count of murder and three counts of aggravated assault.

This is the first homicide in Roswell this year.
