LOVINGTON, N.M. (AP) - A Texas teenager has died from injuries suffered when a sport utility vehicle he was riding in rolled numerous times on a southeastern New Mexico highway.
State police said Edgar Lozano, 14, of Denver City, Texas, died Wednesday night at a hospital in Lubbock, Texas. He had been in critical condition since the accident on Halloween night.
The crash happened on New Mexico highway 83 east of Lovington. State police said Michael Herrera, 17, of Denver City lost control of the SUV and it rolled. Three of the five people inside were ejected.
Police said Herrera fled on foot but was later brought in for questioning.
Investigators said speed and failure to wear seat belts were contributing factors in the Lozano's death.
