ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - A collision involving an Albuquerque Public Schools police cruiser and an SUV carrying at least four people shut down Eubank Boulevard over Interstate 40 Monday night.

The crash happened just after 8 p.m. and injured the officer and four people ejected from the SUV. All were injured and were transported from the scene by ambulance.

None of the injuries is considered to be life-threatening.

A fifth person in the SUV may have walked away from the scene, according to police. The driver of the SUV also threw away a gun that was recovered, police said.

The crash occurred as the APS officer was turning left from the northbound lanes of Eubank to enter westbound I-40. Police said the southbound SUV driver ran a red light and hit the police car. The westbound I-40 exit and entrance ramps also are closed at Eubank.

There was no immediate indication when the lanes would reopen.
