LORDSBURG, N.M. (KRQE) - Hidalgo County sheriff's deputies responding to a reported vehicle crash early Monday morning found instead an abandoned van packed to the roof with marijuana.
The load totaled 4,633 pounds with a street value estimated at $2.7 million.
The call about the crash came in at 6 a.m. Monday, and no suspects were found in the area, deputies reported.
The Hidalgo County Sheriff's Department declined to release additional details on the case other than to say the van was found on a county road about 60 miles from the Mexican border.
