LOS LUNAS, N.M. (KRQE) - A former clerk in the Valencia County Treasurer's Office who altered documents to steal other people's properties has agreed to a plea deal that could put her in prison and force her to pay restitution.

Gladys Vigil pleaded guilty to 12 of the 30 counts against her. Her husband, Victor, who was in on the operation, pleaded guilty to three counts.

The Vigils are accused of forging land deeds and transferring them over to themselves.

The Vigils could be sent to prison for three years under the deal, must pay $13,000 in restitution and return the properties to the rightful owners, the district attorney told News 13.
