ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - An Albuquerque man was arrested and charged with child abuse for apparently caring more about his stolen loot than his 2-year old daughter.
Police say on Monday Gabriel Ybarra, 28, was spotted stealing clothing at the Walmart on Carlisle Boulevard NE north of Menaul.
When he was approached by officers, Ybarra allegedly dropped his daughter on the ground but hung on to the stolen merchandise as he tried to take off.
The little girl landed on her head.
Ybarra was in court Wednesday where prosecutors asked the judge to increase his bond to $15,000 based on a long criminal history with nine bench warrants, three felony arrests that included false imprisonment and child abuse charges in 2011.
Metropolitan Court Judge Christina Argyres didn't think $15,000 was high enough and instead raised it to $25,000.
