ESPAÑOLA, N.M. (KRQE) - An Alcalde woman who shot and killed a man she claims was trying to rape her at knifepoint has now been arrested for murder.
Kaiwee Martinez, 35, is charged with killing 33-year-old Lawrence Sandoval last November at her home.
Martinez had told authorities Sandoval knocked in her door after following her from a gas station and attacked her.
She claims she shot him in self-defense with a gun hidden under her pillow.
But Rio Arriba County sheriff's deputies say after an extensive investigation her story was not credible.
Martinez is being held on a $100,000 cash-only bond.
