ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - A lot of drivers were busted overnight for partying too hard for New Year’s.
APD says at a DWI checkpoint they set up near San Mateo and Montgomery, they arrested 13 drivers suspected of driving drunk and seized four vehicles.
Officials say while there's been a decrease in checkpoint arrests over the years. They say it has nothing to do with people being educated about the risks of drunk driving.
They're finding ways, like social media sites and cell phone apps, to find alternative routes.
"It's due to people communicating quickly via cell phone, texting, phone calls, about the location of a checkpoint,” Officer Robert Gibbs said.
Officials say a total of 30 arrests were made between APD and the Bernalillo County sheriff's department overnight.
