ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - The charges against a cop accused of bribing and raping a prostitute have been dropped for now.
Timothy Carlson was an agent with the State’s Special Investigations Division who was caught with a prostitute, who was also an undercover informant for APD VICE, last March. Sex with a suspect is considered rape because of his position of authority.
Carlson was later fired from his job with DPS.
While those charges have been dropped, the DA’s office is still investigating this case and say Carlson could be recharged if or when the case goes to the Grand Jury.
In the meantime Carlson can still get another job as a cop because the State has not stripped him of law enforcement license.
The Director of the Law Enforcement Academy Board, which issues and revokes cops licenses, could not talk about Carlson directly but says the key issue is a criminal conviction.
Currently Carlson is teaching private concealed carry classes here in Albuquerque. He is allowed to do that because he still has that law enforcement license.
