ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Joel Lee Compton, a man who shot and killed an Albuquerque police officer in cold blood, is up for parole Wednesday.
He was found guilty of killing Officer Gerald Cline back in 1983 at the Tewa Motor Lodge on Central, near San Mateo.
His death row sentence was commuted by a former New Mexico governor three years later, which meant Compton would serve life in prison.
Back then a life sentence meant he would be eligible for parole after 30 years.
The parole board should decide what happens to Compton by Friday.
