CLOVIS, N.M. (AP) - The city of Clovis has settled a more than $1 million lawsuit involving a fatal vehicle crash involving one of its police officers.
Mary Castillo was killed in the Nov. 10, 2010 crash involving former Clovis police officer Stephen Gallegos. Castillo was a passenger in a vehicle.
The Clovis News Journal reports investigators said Gallegos was driving 56 mph in a posted 35 mph zone when he ran a stop sign.
Gallegos was dismissed from the police force after charges were filed. Gallegos is awaiting a trial on a vehicular homicide charge.
