Child stuck in stolen truck

8-year-old girl wakes up during theft

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Theft charges turned into kidnapping charges for two women who witnesses say ran off with a little girl.

It was a very scary feeling for 8-year-old Alondra Rivera and her family, "I was just scared, I thought I'd never see my family again," said Rivera. One minute she was asleep in the backseat of her parent's truck and the next minute she woke up to two strange people taking her away.

Sunday afternoon at a body shop in Southwest Albuquerque, the Rivera's parked in the side lot on Bridge Boulevard to pick up another other truck. As they heading inside, they left the truck the running with air conditioning for Alondra.

While the truck was running, the owner of the shop says two women spotted the truck from across the street and saw them climbed inside and take off.

Alondra's parents and employees from the shop chased after the truck, hollering for them to stop. A worker hopped into the parents' newly-fixed truck, while Alondra's father ran, fearing he wouldn't see his daughter again.

Inside the truck, the suspected car thieves, Aurora  Jacquez and Desiree Corona, finally noticed the little girl, "I saw two people in the truck and I was like 'who were they?'" said Alondra. "One lady saw me wake up; the one that wasn't driving. She told the other one to drop me off out of the truck."

Witnesses say they saw Jacquez and Corona stop, leave the girl behind and run into a nearby park.

Sheriff's Deputies arrested both women who said they thought the truck was theirs.

The two women faced a judge Sunday. The alleged driver, Desiree Corona, has had previous auto theft run-ins.
