PORTALES, N.M. (KRQE) - New surveillance cameras at Eastern New Mexico University are on the job and already have led to an arrest.

The cameras were installed last month in the campus union building parking lot after a rash of thefts.

And last Monday they caught a crook on tape. ENMU police say they busted a 14-year old girl stealing from a car.

Pictures from the camera showed the getaway car leaving the scene, and police say the girl admitted to breaking into a number of vehicles on campus.

Police say she was part of a ring that goes "car hopping" looking for unlocked cars and stealing the valuables inside.

The 14-year old is charged with auto burglary. Police also plan to charge another juvenile and three adults in the case.
