ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - An Albuquerque businessman was arrested and charged with sexual exploitation of children after his employee discovered a camera installed in the company restroom.

According to a criminal complaint Craig Highfill admitted to placing a video camera under a counter in the bathroom at the State Farm Insurance Agency Office located at 3750 Juan Tabo Blvd. NE.

Highfill told police he had recorded individuals using the restroom approximately 30 times over the past month and a half.  The complaint indicated that two of the individuals filmed were underage girls.

The camera was located by a female employee on Friday after she noticed her boss “fidgeting around with something” in the restroom she and other coworkers used.  After Highfill left the office, she went into the restroom and discovered a camera mounted to the sink positioned to film the toilet area.  She proceeded to take photos of the camera’s location and then removed it from the bathroom.

The complaint goes on to say that a short time later after Highfill returned to the office and the restroom he approached the employee and made the comment, “I’m in big trouble, huh?”

The employee, who had worked for Highfill for eight years, told police she took the camera home and plugged it into her computer where she observed six videos of individuals using the restroom.  One of those individuals was an underage female and police say the girl’s genitals were visible in the video.

On Sunday the employee turned the camera over to Albuquerque police.

The next day APD along with Homeland Security Investigators interviewed Highfill who admitted to installing the camera and recording individuals using the restroom.  He also admitted to recording one underage girl – this was not the same girl observed in the video by the employee.

Highfill was taken into custody and has been charged with one count of sexual exploitation of children.
