ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Video of an incident with a city bus shows how a baseball sized-rock broke through the windshield and injured two people Saturday.
According to police, a man threw a baseball-sized rock at a city bus late Saturday afternoon, as the bus headed west on Montgomery Boulevard near Morningside Drive.
Albuquerque police said two people were hurt, one passenger and the bus driver.. Both injuries were minor.
“It caused glass debris to fly into the eye of a 19n year-old female passenger. She was transported to the hospital," Officer Nelson Sanchez said.
Police said glass debris also caused a small cut on the arm of the bus driver.
The driver and several passengers saw the suspect in action, but the man was able to get away before police got to the scene.
The man has not been caught.
The city said it’s not everyday someone chucks a rock at a city bus.
"this is one of those incidents that just happened and it doesn't happen very often, but when it does happen it looks a lot worse than it really is, everybody came out of it fine, the driver's fine, the bus is going to be fine," Rick Dereyes of Albuquerque Ride said.
The city said where passengers sit there are two layers of protection, both glass and plastic.
However that is not the case on the windshield because it would block the drivers view.
