TIERRA AMARILLA, N.M. (KRQE) - The woman accused of stealing nearly $3.4 million from a small school district in Gallina, N.M., will have to post a $250,000 cash or surety bond by 3 p.m. Friday to avoid going to jail.
Kathy Borrego's attorney on Thursday waived his client's first appearance at district court in Tierra Amarilla.
Judge Sheri A. Raphaelson ruled Borrego will have to be placed on house arrest and wear an ankle monitor until she faces trial. The judge said she considers Borrego to be a flight risk.
