Billy the Kid pardon still on the table

SANTA FE, N.M. (KRQE) - Billy the Kid is still in the running for a pardon, but Governor Bill Richardson said no one else will make the cut. He has already pardoned or restored the state citizenship rights of 19 people.

He said he will make a decision about pardoning Billy the Kid by Thursday -- his last day in office.

The list of those requesting clemency reaches into the hundreds. The governor said there is not enough time to fully investigate each one and that includes one made on behalf of Carlos Fierro. He is the attorney sentenced in November 2009 to seven years in prison for vehicular homicide.

Those whom Richardson pardoned this year are:

• Lisde Martinez - possession of marijuana with intent to distribute - pardoned on Aug. 6, 2010
• Stefan Newbold - commercial burglary
• Leslie Joe Reese - distribution of a controlled substance
• John Paul Ulibarri - heroin trafficking - pardoned on Nov. 19, 2010
• David Hicks - burglary - pardoned on Aug. 6, 2010
• Edward Gilbert - financial crimes conviction in New York
• Chelsea Hebert - conspiracy - pardoned on Aug. 6, 2010
• Steve Apodaca - trafficking of a controlled substance
• Jason Emrick - automobile burglary
• David Wohlert - possession of marijuana - pardoned on Nov. 19, 2010
• Martha Ann Moore - tax evasion
• Jackie McKinney - drug charges
• Guy Idleman - criminal damage to property
• Lorine Fulner - bad checks
• Mary Connelly - embezzlement
• Larry Beaty - receiving stolen property
