SANTA FE, N.M. (KRQE) - Billy the Kid is still in the running for a pardon, but Governor Bill Richardson said no one else will make the cut. He has already pardoned or restored the state citizenship rights of 19 people.
He said he will make a decision about pardoning Billy the Kid by Thursday -- his last day in office.
The list of those requesting clemency reaches into the hundreds. The governor said there is not enough time to fully investigate each one and that includes one made on behalf of Carlos Fierro. He is the attorney sentenced in November 2009 to seven years in prison for vehicular homicide.
