ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - A chase involving Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Deputies and a man wanted for the murder of a young Albuquerque woman ended Tuesday with that suspect dead.

Investigators with BCSO say it all started around 7 p.m. when two deputies spotted Jerry McDonald
near Bridge and Five Points. McDonald was riding in a blue van as a passenger, a woman who was driving the van sped away from deputies.

When officers started chasing the van, they say McDonald fired shots at them. Several other deputies got involved in the chase which lasted for about a mile.

Eventually McDonald and the female driver slammed into a wall. Investigators say the deputies and the man exchanged gun fire and at some point McDonald was shot and killed. At this time investigators have not said whether he shot himself or if he was fatally shot by officers.

The female driver is expected to be OK and may face criminal charges.

At this time two deputies are on paid leave while investigators look into the shooting.

McDonald was wanted in connection with the murder of Amanda Wiley, who was found dead and naked in a ditch in NW Albuquerque in April.

More details are expected to be released Wednesday.
