ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Bernalillo County Sheriff's Deputies said a drunken couple used a 9-year-old child to blow into an ignition interlock device to get their car started.

Jorge Martinez, 31, was the man behind the wheel.

Martinez was spotted driving erratically Saturday in the area of Bridge and Atrisco.

When deputies finally pulled him over, Martinez and his adult female passenger were intoxicated, according to the criminal complaint.

Deputies said a 9-year-old boy in the backseat raised his hand and admitted he had to blow into the car's ignition interlock device so his dad could drive.

Martinez, a repeat drunk driver, is now charged with two counts of child abuse because there were two children in the car.

He's also charged with conspiracy.
