ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Police say a man accused of shooting his next door neighbor over the weekend, is on the run.
Authorities say 26-year-old Gary Carter got into an argument outside of his Southeast Albuquerque apartment, then opened fire.
When police searched his home, they found another gun and 40 pounds of marijuana hidden in his oven.
"That's a large enough amount to supply a lot of people and be involved in some major dealing," said Commander Michael Geier of the Albuquerque Police Department.
Field officers in Geier's Southeast Area Command found the stash Saturday afternoon, after getting a search warrant for Carter.
"During the argument, the suspect had gone to his car and retrieved his weapon. He apparently shot the neighbor and casually walked back to the car and drove off from the scene," said Geier.
The neighbor that Carter is accused of shooting was taken to the hospital and is expected to be okay.
Police believe Carter has some affiliation with a local smoke shop. They will be questioning employees of that store as well as Carter's family in Las Cruces.
In the meantime, police want people to keep an eye out for Carter. They say Carter may be driving a charcoal grey SUV with a San Francisco 49ers sticker on the back window.
If you have any information about his whereabouts, police urge you to call 242-2677.
