ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Homicide detectives are searching for a killer who left two bodies near an arroyo in southwest Albuquerque.

The bodies were found near Desert Breeze and Purple Cone, near Unser and Arenal. One body was found facedown in an arroyo, and the other was on the bike path that runs alongside.

Police responded to the scene around 3 p.m. Officers are not saying who the men are or how they died. As of Thursday evening, officers said they still had not positively identified the victims.

Neighbors tell News 13 at least one witness day a man on a bike shortly before the shooting, then heard about eight gunshots.

"He saw the guy on the bike go towards the ditch and that's when they heard the gunshots, so they waited about ten minutes just to be safe and that's when they went back there and they found the bodies," said one neighbor who did not want to be identified.

Police would not confirm if they are looking for a possible suspect on a bike.

Residents said there have been recent fights at a nearby park but said otherwise the neighborhood is quiet. But they said they are concerned things may get worse.

"Once in a great while, things will happen, but to happen in broad daylight and this close is really something new," said neighbor Robin Griffin. "It's just too close to home."

APD's mobile crime lab and gang unit are assisting in the investigation.
