APD finds stolen propane tanks, bikes

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Albuquerque Police have caught a man tied to a string of thefts at Albuquerque businesses and in a neighborhood.

According to a criminal complaint, a white box truck was seen pulling up to three separate Smith's locations in Albuquerque, after which two male subjects would hop out, break into a storage area and take propane tanks, a total of 96 over the course of two weeks.

The same truck was also spotted pulling up to a Home Depot where a hydraulic log splitter was stolen.

Thursday night, APD officers spotted a truck matching one spotted on surveillance camera at the thefts and pulled it over. Investigators say 34-year-old Juan Delgado was behind the wheel and an assortment of stolen property was in the back, including propane tanks, a log splitter and 22 bicycles and strollers.

In interviews with detectives, Delgado apparently admitted to knowing some of the property was stolen and said he was being paid $500 to drive the truck to El Paso.

Delgado is charged with receiving stolen property. As of Saturday night, Delgado is listed in custody at the Metropolitan Detention Center.

Online court records show Delgado has a burglary conviction from a 1997 incident and was out on bond awaiting trial for arson charges.
