ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - An Amber Alert issued for a missing 11-year-old Texas girl has been canceled in New Mexico Thursday.
Fort Worth Texas Police Department and the New Mexico State Police are cancelling the Amber Alert in New Mexico based on the fact that there is no updated information that she may be in New Mexico at this time
Jessica Smith and her mother, Kimberly Smith, 42, disappeared from Fort Worth, Texas, and an Amber Alert was issued there after the girl didn't show up for school on Tuesday. Tips were called into Albuquerque police on Thursday morning, but none have turned up the girl or her mother.
Early Wednesday New Mexico State Police issued an Amber Alert in New Mexico.
Texas authorities say the girl's parents are going through a nasty divorce and had been arguing when Kimberly took off with her daughter.
News reports in Dallas-Fort Worth indicate Jessica and had been talking with a counselor at school about problems at home and that her father was arrested in October and charged with child sex abuse.
An older sister told reporters their mother apparently didn't want Jessica talking to the counselor, but police aren't saying why the pair disappeared or why they might be in New Mexico.
She is still missing and considered in danger.
Jessica is 5 feet 1 inch tall, weighs about 120 pounds and has brown eyes and straight brown hair just passed her shoulders. While she is pictured wearing glasses she was not wearing them at the time of abduction.
Kimberly Smith is 5 feet 2 inches tall, weighs 150 pounds and has brown hair and eyes. She also has a cross tattooed on the back of her neck and a decorative tattoo on her back.
Smith is driving a 2007 silver Mazda CX-9 with Texas plates, BMZ-390. The vehicle has tinted windows with a Harley Davidson pink and green decal on the rear window.
Anyone with information on the girl or her mother is asked to contact Fort Worth Police at (817) 335-4222.
