ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - It's always dumb to drive drunk, and it's especially dumb to roll up ripped to the front gate of a military base.

But Air Force security police say that's what Merle Anderson did Wednesday afternoon.

They say when he drove up to the Wyoming Gate on Kirtland Air Force Base stinking of booze he told officers he thought he was in Rio Rancho.

He reportedly blew 0.16 on a Breathalyzer test--twice the limit for presumed intoxication--and had two empty beer cans in his car.

Anderson, who has three prior DWI convictions, now faces a federal drunken-driving charge, which carries much more severe penalties than a state charge.
