LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) - Border Patrol agents working at a checkpoint on Interstate 10 west of Las Cruces seized more than $168,000 in cash in two separate incidents last weekend, including the discovery of $154,000 inside a suitcase on a commercial bus.
A trained dog alerted agents early Friday to a large sum of money inside a makeshift compartment of a suitcase that had been placed in the luggage bin of the bus.
Also, agents found $14,000 of cash in two small bundles inside the trunk of a rental car. Officials say agents noticed suspicious behavior by two individuals who were traveling in the vehicle, leading to a secondary inspection.
