ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - An Albuquerque mother is in jail Sunday evening accused of staging an elaborate plot to kidnap her own child.

Dana Tortalita, 21, is in the middle of an ugly custody dispute with her child's father.

Police say, surveillance video confirms what the father claims, that Tortalita showed up at his home Saturday to visit their 2-year-old child, when two men showed up out of nowhere to help her kidnap the toddler.

At one point the father claimed he was punched in the face.

Tortalita was arrested later at her apartment.

She appeared in court Sunday charged with child abuse and conspiracy.

“I am concerned because of the allegations of the complaint and that you're a danger to the community and also to the alleged victim and the child,” Judge Henry Alaniz said.

Tortalita’s bond was set at $25,000 and is still in jail.
